Leah Reibel is admitted to practice in all Ohio counties, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She is also admitted to practice in the following federal courts: the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
PUBLIC SERVICE:
Ms. Reibel’s current public service includes assistance to low income clients in a number of areas, including criminal defense; as well as representation of abused children as a guardian ad litem. She also works for Advocating Opportunity. Advocating Opportunity (AO) provides holistic legal services and advocacy for trafficked and exploited persons legal and human rights-based framework.
APPOINTMENTS AND BOARDS:
Ms. Reibel was appointed by the Governor to The Ohio Board of Dietetics — the board that licenses dietitions.
She was also appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals by the Worthington City Council.
Ms. Reibel has also served as a Board Member of the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities (formerly the MRDD Board) by the Probate Judge. This Board provides services for 10,000 disabled residents of Franklin County, from childhood throughout their lives; and runs pre-schools, schools, four sheltered workshops, and adult-living services.
WASHINGTON, D.C. EXPERIENCE:
Ms. Reibel has also worked as Special Assistant to the Chief Judge of the D.C. Court of Appeals and Special Counsel to the Chair of the City Council of the District of Columbia, and has drafted and lobbied for budget and health and human services legislation ranging from separation of powers issues to bail reform.
Ms. Reibel has served as an Intern in the Court of Claims, drafting memoranda on government contracting cases and the Contract Disputes Act; and has worked for the D.C. Prisoners Legal Services Project on a class action to provide better medical care for prisoners.
Ms. Reibel was an Intern at the United States Senate Legal Counsel where she researched and drafted briefs on the FCC’s affirmative action program and First Amendment issues. Ms. Reibel has worked on Congressional campaigns and has represented battered women through the Women’s Legal Defense Fund in Washington, D.C.
EDUCATION:
Ms. Reibel received her law degree from the District of Columbia School of Law, Cum Laude, in 1991. She received her undergraduate degree from Ohio State University in 1984, and then worked in politics in Washington, D.C. for several years.
BAR INVOLVEMENT:
Ms. Reibel is past-President of the Central Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, has served as a mediator for the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. Leah Reibel is a member of the Columbus Bar Association, and belongs to the Family Law and Criminal Law Committees.
MENTORING:
Ms. Reibel was selected as a Mentor by the Ohio Supreme Court to mentor new attorneys.
Ms. Reibel was also selected by the Franklin County Municipal Court to mentor new lawyers before they are admitted to practice in the Municipal Court.
Ms. Reibel’s hobbies include visiting every County Courthouse in Ohio, of which there are 88.
